New website; new raffle!
Picture
On my social media pages (Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter) I'm offering a draw to win my latest custom luma creation - a sloth! Check the page of your choice (or all three) for contest details - last day to enter is January 31.
New Ko-fi!

I've always kept this website ad-free, and will continue to do so. Unsurprisingly, it does cost me money to run, so I've set up a Ko-fi account - in case anyone would like to make a small contribution to the upkeep of the site. So if you have used my tutorials or appreciate my costume write ups or want to support me for any other reason, and you have a couple dollars to spare, here's the link ^_^
New(ish) cosplays for sale!
Picture
Ok, not new at all, but many of my gently used costumes from the last few years are for sale! Since moving to a smaller apartment I need to get rid of everything that doesn't fit or that I just don't wear anymore. Full post of what's for sale is on this page - preference given to Toronto and Kitchener, Ontario buyers, but I can ship worldwide at buyer's expense.

Summer Sunshine

It's only mid-November, it's been a pretty mild fall so far, and I'm still already antsy for the return of summer! Since that's obviously not going to happen anytime soon, beach photos will have to do ~_^

Among the many, many small cosplay events I went to this year was the Toronto Cosplay Beach Party, and since I was on such a roll with making costumes, I figured I should put together a beach version of one of the my characters. Kurumasha suggested Kate Bishop, and that's the one that stuck since I already had a ton of purple spandex leftover from other projects.

I went to the beach party with Kia, The Video Ninja, Yavarice, and Ragz and we ended up accidentally ditching the actual "picnic" part of the event because when we arrived we just set up our blankets and umbrella on the beach! We still had a great time though, and managed to see most of our other friends out on the sand. I took a few photos, and The Video Ninja did a mini shoot with each of us, which was really nice. There were lots of photographers and videographers there, and I even ended up in the videos from Sean Ward and The Canadian Nerd! My event photos and those videos are below ^_^
And with this little event-report, finally my Hawkini gallery has been updated with photos! Click here for all the photos or more info about the suit itself!

Let's go to the EX!

I have some exciting news: The EX (AKA the Canadian National Exhibition) has a pop culture exhibit this year with the theme of "Let Your Fandom Flag Fly!"... and a couple of my costumes are part of the display!!! I got to take a sneak peek at a few of the items which will be part of the display when I dropped off my costumes and it all looks so awesome! I'm really looking forward to seeing the whole thing all put together. I can't believe that my Alice and Saffron costumes will be alongside so much other fantastic work *_*

If you want to check it out, the EX runs Aug 15 - Sept 1, and the fandom exhibit is in the Direct Energy Centre (Heritage Court).

Crystal Entropy: Cover Model

So the reveal of Geek Inked Magazine's April cover shoot was today... I am so floored. I'm not going to ramble on and on with this one since it's pretty self-explanatory ^_^. Set of photos and a little bit of an interview are on the site (just click on the image above). I wasn't actually supposed to be their cover girl for this month, but had the fortune of being in the right place at the right time.

As a bonus, I found a video from the con which has a little bit of behind-the-scenes of my shoot, as well as a snippet of my time on stage being introduced as a masquerade judge.

Umm, post-VEDA post?

In case anyone is actually reading this (which I doubt, but I keep writing anyways) I did not, in fact, fail at Vlogging Every Day April just a few days in, which you might have assumed. In fact I actually succeded! Which is awesome, and a feat I'm quite proud of! But recording and editing and rendering and uploading and annotating a video EVERY DAY for a month, on top of having a full-time day job and attempting to eat and sleep meant that I had very little time left to actually post the videos as they were completed, whether it was here, facebook, twitter; anywhere. So, here's a summary in case you'd like to check out a particular video instead of sorting through nearly 2.5 hours of video yourself (not that I would mind that either! We all have limited time, however).

Day 1 - An introduction to our foster cat Hugo
Day 2 - I discuss trying to stay flexible within cosplay/project plans
Day 3 - Convention review: PAX East 2013
Day 4 - Throwback Thursday - Rabi en Rose
Day 5 - Fail Friday - Haibane Renmei; I try some candy from the Phillipines
Day 6 - Progress Vlog - attempt to clean my Midna bodysuit
Day 7 - A peek at a Game of Thrones themed dinner and more time with Hugo
Day 8 - Progress Vlog - cutting out a pattern "sloper" for pants
Day 9 - Throwback Tuesday - Sally Ragdoll
Day 10 - Progress Vlog - "Kigurumi" style onesie
Day 11 - Throwback Thursday - Jin, Samurai Champloo; I tell a story about a creepy encounter on my way home
Day 12 - Fail Friday - Twin Peaks (except that I got distracted by not having photos)
Day 13 - I talk about Cosplay for a Cure while Hugo is cute
Day 14 - I briefly talk about what I was up to over the weekend
Day 15 - How I was feeling about doing VEDA at the half-way mark; follow-up to Fail Friday Twin Peaks
Day 16 - Throwback Tuesday - Goldie; while doing Gunnarolla's "new vlogging angles" challenge
Day 17 - Doc H visits and makes reallllly bad jokes; I show my new circle lenses
Day 18 - Throwback Thursday - Fujiko; a brief history of Lupin III; and I get a haircut
Day 19 - Fail Friday - CATS
Day 20 - I talk about events happening in late April and one of my favourite places to shop for cosplay accessories
Day 21 - Vlogging on the bus - linkspam for 3GP, the Debs & Errol indigogo, and a NYCC music vid I'm featured in
Day 22 - Talking about what people like to have playing as "background noise"
Day 23 - Throwback Tuesday - Psiren; and a look at all my badges
Day 24 - Tips for dealing with uncomfortable or "non-functional" costumes
Day 25 - Throwback Thursday - Gabriel
Day 26 - Fail Friday - Stellvia of the Universe; sneak peek at the Knitter's Frolic, advice for safe use of contacts for cosplay
Day 27 - Vlogging from the Knitter's Frolic
Day 28 - My roommate Elemental discusses her Posing & Photography video series
Day 29 - This one is really just the cat, including some slow-motion stuff
Day 30 - Wrap-up of the month, by the numbers

And while were're going with video links, how about the cameos and guest spots I did during the month?

Meanwhile, on the Internet...

My plan to start 2013 off on the right foot by posting more blog and updating more regularly is not going as well as I planned since it's already February, but hey, you gotta start somewhere.

First off, appearances around the web!
Picture

I wore my Goth Kim Pine costume on Sunday of NYCC this year, and Comics Alliance snapped my photo in the hall - which I was rather surprised to spot on one of their "Best Cosplay Ever" posts from the weekend! I have friends who are featured on Comcs Alliance for their cosplay relatively regularly (one of whom, Gilly-kins, is in the same post as Donna Troy) but since I rarely do comics costumes, it's a special treat to have been featured!

Hanie Mohd, who drew/designed the "DC girls in sweaters" artwork that I based this outfit on, recently reblogged the photos of my Catwoman costume again! Awesome ^_^. Unlike many of my friends, I never get the attention of the source-material creators with my costumes, so it's extra special to have her acknowledge and like my interpretation.

My OC from the Dr Holocaust universe, Crystal Entropy, was included in artwork by Daria-rat on DeviantArt, along with other local and internet-based "villain" characters. I am so flattered that she included the character, especially since Crystal is almost unknown relative to the other characters involved with the Doc's story/videos/appearances. Click the thumbnail to see it full-size.
In other web-based news, I have posted 2 new videos this week - one is a blooper reel from the vlogs  did with the Video Ninja in 2012, and the other is a video of the masquerade entry Kurumasha and I did at G-Anime last weekend. They're both pretty entertaining, in my humble opinion, which means that videos or the rest of the year are only going to go downhill LOL
My friends over at WE Tangent produced a musical based on NaNoWriMo in the fall, and if you haven't seen it or heard of it yet (and you're into that kind of thing) you should check the whole thing out over at nanomusical.com
I make appearances as an extra at the kick-off party in Episode 1 and at the TGIO party in Episode 6. I dance. It's special ;)
