Scott Pilgrim
Kim Pine - casual/film version
This is one of my super-casual just-for-fun costumes, put together for The Savage Bandito's Scott Pilgrim videos. The wig was a lot of work, but the rest is all bought/closet. While I wish I had been able to find a jacket closer to Kim's, I think I did a pretty good job replicating her style given my time and budget restrictions. I threw together a more summer-appropriate version of this costume as well for the shoots we did in the 30+ degree July weather so I wouldn't die ~_^

Scott Pilgrim Mega Montage
Considering I put this costume together to use for fan-films, it's probably not surprising that I have a long list of video projects! These are all projects which were organized by The Savage Bandito and/or the Scott Pilgrim Cosplay Team of Toronto. Also check out: Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour (with special guests Michael Comeau and Bryan Lee O'Malley!), Kim Pine Cosplay Montage (featuring, umm, me), and Ramona Flowers Cosplay Tribute which doesn't have me in it at all, but if you liked the other three, you'll like this one. |

Kim Pine - "Gothic Lolita"
This costume, as I've chosen to do it, is definitely more "Goth" than "Lolita"... but so is Kim ^_^ Even though my wig is definitely movie-based, the dress is based on the comic design, with a couple minor interpretive differences (just the lacing at the front and ribbon ties on the sleeves).
I based the dress on the Simplicity pattern #2832 with alterations to the skirt construction and sleeve design. I chose a heavy-weight (read: upholstery weight T_T) dull black satin for the fabric, and regretted my choice while sewing... The fabric turned out to be far too heavy to actually gather, so every "gathered" part of the dress is actually tiny individual pleats, which were a huge time-consuming project in and of themselves. I'm happy with the results though. There's horse hair braid in the skirt hem to help keep it full, and a "cheated" crinoline which is pretty much just there for looks ^_^
The hair bow is sewn from the same fabric as the dress and is attached to a headband. Other accessories (cuffs, boots) are store-bought.

Kim Pine - bathing suit
I really love the vintage look of Kim's swimsuit from the opening chapter of Scott Pilgrim Gets it Together, and since I needed a new suit myself and love Kim, I decided to take on the challenge of sewing my own swimsuit. A "Kimsuit", as it came to be known. I bought a whole lot of bright yellow textured swimwear spandex and made a pattern by taping over an old t-shirt and drawing on all the seams , similar to making a duct tape dressform. So far I have made two Kimsuits, and while the design and construction of the second was vastly superior to the first, mk 2 only looks good when dry, so I'm probably going to make a third which I will feel more comfortable wearing into the water.
I also finally got around to styling a comic-coloured wig, which I'd been wanting to do since making the comic-based goth-loli dress. While I could get away with wearing the movie-wig with my dress, the blonde in it badly clashed with the yellow swimsuit. Luckily I had a friend offer me an old wig of hers, so after a quick trim I have a much more accurate Kim wig to go with my bathing suit (and dress if I ever wear it again).
Current status: active.
