Evolution of Cersei

30/8/2017

It seems appropriate that in the wake of the Season 7 finale, and prepping Cersei to wear again this weekend at Fan Expo, I should make a post about her. And so I present to you the evolution of this costume from "cheap and quick for a party" to the almost 2 year project it became.
Picture
Medieval Times (June 2015) - I was actually a couple minutes late for the show because I was sewing up to the last second. Belt was a temporary stand-in. No wig.
Picture
Centre Island (July 2015) - addition of belt and wig. Added "embroidery" to sleeves. Temporary stand-in for necklace.

Otakuthon (August 2015) - made myself a Lion necklace, and painted the majority of the bodice front "embroidery".

Forest City ComiCon (October 2015) - mostly "invisible" improvements. Replaced the ribbon on the necklace with chain, finished the bodice "embroidery" including the motif on the back of the dress, which is hidden under the wig :(

Toronto ComiCon (March 2016) - Finally did something about that super-inaccurate and always tangled wig. Also, I replaced the necklace that I made with a replica that I purchased.

YetiCon (June 2016) - Uhhh, I don't really want to talk about this one. (Photo is literally what the dress looked like that weekend. It had to be left at home).
Picture
Photo shoot with Paul Hillier (June 2016) - while technically unchanged from Toronto Comicon, I had to backtrack and remove the lion that I had partially attached earlier in the month, and the photos just turned out great.

Costume-Con 35 (April 2017) - the big re-reveal! I finished painting and attached both of the lion appliques, which was the bulk of the work remaining because it was an all-or-nothing step. I also added the missing accessories of a lion ring (purchased) and citrine geode ring (hand-made). And I figured I should probably replace the belt to match the quality of the rest of the costume, so there's a whole new (more accurate and more attractive) belt.

*twitch twitch*

If you follow me on instagram, or twitter, or facebook.... you'll know that almost every Thursday night since last November I've been joining Dan the Video Ninja on his twitch.tv channel to stream video games. And you will also know that I wear a (casual) costume every time. I don't always match the game (sometimes I just don't have what I need on hand or I don't have the time to put something together for a single-sitting game), but I always dress up. I've been posting photos to social media every week, and as a baby-step on the way to getting this site up to date, I've started adding them to my side-gallery for casual cosplay, if you want to take a look at everything. I hope you enjoy, check out the photos, and maybe even join us for the next stream!

ConBravo! Ninja-style

Didn't manage to ninja may way out of this one ^_^ Thanks to Casey and Sha for the smooches, and Paul Hillier for the photo
I was at ConBravo! for all 3 days again this year, but I guess I was too successful at being a stealthy ninja because I feel like I somehow missed most of it. Go figure. Friday is understandable - I spent the day at work, then took the bus to Hamilton, and by the time I had arrived. picked up my badge, checked in to the hotel, and gotten into cosplay... there was time to take a real quick look at the dealers hall and then go for dinner with Kurumasha. I'm not even sure why I bothered to put on my Kate Bishop costume - I didn't even take a selfie. But it was good to see Sha again and dinner was perfection.

Saturday was the big day - convention time during the day, then being a Stage Ninja for the masquerade in the afternoon/evening, followed by a group Wicked + Divine shoot to wrap up the day. So Kurumasha and I spent the morning doing our goddess makeup for Badb and Amaterasu respectively, went to Cosplay for a Cure to get photos and hang out with friends in the afternoon, until it was time to do the masquerade thing. I couldn't ninja my makeup off so I just did what I could to hide in the shadows anyways LOL

While it otherwise ran relatively smoothly, the masquerade did finish later than expected which meant that we were rushed to meet with Jen of Verberg and Dan the Video Ninja for our shoot with Dream Land Photography... but we made it work in the end. Jen and I had been trying to find a time to cosplay Luci and Ammy together for months, so I'm glad that it finally happened, and even better that we had Badb and Baphomet along too.

Sunday was a lot more chill. I was "on call" at Cosplay for a Cure but the other volunteers for the day mostly had everything covered so it was nice to get to wander away regularly as well as chill with the ever-growing Ain't No Pretty Princess cosplay group. I've got shots from Cosplay for a Cure and Dream Land Photography to share from that group too... coming soon. As usual my own photos (plus a couple others) are below... mostly Saturday. Between carrying around my bass and fighting off con-plague sniffles on Sunday I didn't have my camera out.
