Constantine
Gabriel (Half-Breed)
This costume is a recreation of the outfit Gabriel wears in the asylum at the climax of the movie. Since I originally made it for Halloween out of "found items" instead of sewn from scratch. a few details are off... but I still adore this costume. All those straps and cords and zippers and ribbons! Especially the chaps, though; they are love. Admittedly, I wish I could have pulled off a pair of wings to go with it, but some things are just too hard.
I tried tea-dying it to make it more accurate in preparation for a photo shoot (you can see the difference in the colour), and while in the end it all worked out fine, I realized during the process that as a last-minute rush-job, the costume could only be improved so much. Thus, with some sweet photos from Elemental and Stillvisions tucked away for safekeeping, this particular incarnation of Gabriel was permanently retired. Not that there wasn't more Constantine cosplay from me...

Gabriel (Human)
I usually refer to this costume as "Burninated Gabriel". In the film, Gabe's wings are burnt off by Lucifer after the angel loses God's favor, and this is the result.
I added all of the soot/burn marks just using black fabric paint and a dry-brush technique. Make-up is cheap black face paint as poorly applied as possible for good smudgy-ness (and is a bitch to wash off T_T). The wing stumps are made out of upholstery foam and fit through a couple of slits I cut into the back of the top. They were carved with scissors, given a base coat of glue, then acrylic paint and fake blood. It's only unfortunate that the blood doesn't show up very well on the dark surface. I might remake the stumps if I ever wear the outfit again.
I modeled for a life-drawing session wearing this outfit with some additions for flavour at Dr. Sketchy's Toronto. While not technically Gabriel cosplay, I've still included a couple of the photos from the evening here, and more from that set can be found in my non-cosplay gallery.
In 2011 I brought out Gabriel again for the Zombie Walk, with added effects makeup for a much more severely burned look. Sure, that much damage isn't film-accurate, but it was lots of fun to learn the techniques and to wear; not to mention I got more positive responses at the Zombie Walk than anywhere else I've taken the costume, so I count that little experiment as a success.
