BioShock
Splicer
Early in 2012, Chibik3r0 made himself a splicer costume. Somehow that one costume snowballed into having a 10-person group of splicers terrorizing Anime North on Sunday a few months later. While everyone's mask designs and clothing are based on the game designs, none of us were direct recreations of the in-game models. I used concept art from the BioShock 2 "Baby Jane" model as my starting point for the outfit.
It was a relatively easy costume since the dress is an altered thrift store find, but it was a lot of fun to be part of a big group - I tend to cosplay on my own - and I hope to do more group stuff in the future. While I'm really happy with how the dress turned out, when I wore the costume at Anime North, I still wanted to do more distressing on it (I ran out of time for for AN), and I really wanted to upgrade the costume with FX makeup the next time I wore it. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to really raise the bar for the makeup at Halloween. Although the makeup took me 5 hours to do (and that's not including my face or the time it took to style my hair), I think it was totally worth the effort. The mutated skin effect was achieved with only gelatin and Snazaroo makeup, building up the bubbly spots with cotton balls. I loved the reaction that the makeup got at the party; everyone told me that I looked disgusting! I really hope that I have the time and opportunity to do the makeup again for a formal photo shoot, since the lighting at the party wasn't great for photos. Current status: in storage. |
